Kenny Herbert and Rab Howat have a new album out now. Released under the title "Another Positive Line" and the group name is The Apple Beggars. This is a play on Apple (the eternal connection to the Beatles) and "Robbin' the beggar" a song written by Rab which is included in the 14 track CD. The tracks are available for download from itunes.

If you're lucky enough to buy a ticket for their gig at The Caves in Edinburgh on the 30th April, you'll receive a free CD in the ticket price.

In April the Flavours will be in France at the beautiful chateau belonging to Mr and Mrs Hutchison under the guise of "songwriting" (aye right). It's a recipe for disaster if you ask me. The Hypermarket is just a few minutes drive away and the wine is plentiful. OK, we'll have fun and I'm sure we'll have a stab at creating beautiful music together, but I can see a few distractions getting in the way. Someone is bound to get arrested for disturbing the peace, maybe all of us. All in good fun and if anything productive comes out of it I'm sure you'll hear a snippet.

The Flavours are now on facebook (flavours live). There are lots of photographs and videos of the band playing live at the Jam house. We do pop in on the odd occasion and all friends are welcome to join us.

Here are the lyrics for song number 3 "The Gentle Touch " from "The Studio Diary"

The original lyric was about music and what it has done for me in my life "and we're gonna sail the 7 seas" my travels around the world thanks to music. I don't need an imitation or nomination to keep alive my dedication. It developed into a love song after I found the opening lines.

The Gentle Touch

My lady is the pretty one

make me die for love make me what so long

it's so right when we're all alone

and every time she turn the light down low

well I just close my eyes and never let her go

cause I like it so much, I really like it so much

My lady sure has the gentle touch

she's the kind of girl who never says too much

but every move she makes has the magic touch

and we're gonna sail the seven seas

without a care in the world without the slightest breeze

just her gentle touch, I really like it so much

I don't need an imitation

I don't need a nomination

to keep alive my dedication

let it rain and let the wind blow

where you lead I will follow

we got each other, we've got tomorrow

I really care for my pretty one

she make me die for love make me wait so long

but it's the kind of game we can build upon

every time I see the look in her eyes

I just count to ten and make a compromise

I like it so much, I like it so much

I don't need an imitation

I don't need a nomination

to keep alive my dedication

let it rain and let the wind blow

where you lead I will follow

we got each other, we've got tomorrow

To take us into the new year here is a new version of "January". I love it and the video is great. Thanks to all who took part and a big ta to Dun The Veil, I'm pleased as punch.

The Studio Diary is released as a limited edition CD-R. I am delighted with the content and quality of this collection of songs. The artists' contribution is substantial and I would like to thank them all for allowing their music to be previewed on this CD. I would also like to add that these people are my friends, some are old friends and some are new. Regardless of that we share a love of music that will live with us forever and the pleasure that music gives us helps bond our friendship. We have all shared in happy times with music at the core of social and professional life. My friends are very important to me and to feel loved by them is the greatest feeling of all. Music is the common bond but the friendships have supported me through the most difficult times when friendship can make all the difference between success or failure, positivity or negativity and even despair or hope. Producing music is something I have always taken great pleasure in and the end result will be here for many years to come, so in that respect it’s important to me that I feel I get it right and give all that I can. I am constantly writing music and I’m delighted about having my songs released on The Studio Diary.

Here is a funny link. It's a clip from the Mrs Brown trilogy of sit-com's. I went to see it at the Playhouse last year. I also went along this year to see the 4th part of the trilogy, does that make sense? Anyway, it will be shown as a series by the BBC in Sept/Oct 2010. Brendan O' Carroll is the main creator and performer supported by a superb cast including his sister Eillish who is an old friend of mine from the 1980's. Have a look, you'll be wetting yourselves. He does use the F word so if you're easily offended.........look out.

MP3 clips for this month include 3 from the new Studio Diary CD and a couple I featured earlier this year. I've received requests for both of these songs. So for Steve, Michael, and Nigel, here is another listen to "Midnight Limelight", and for Dora a snippet from "Keep yourself to yourself", no I don't mean you, it's the title of the song.

Check this out. If you're anything like me you'll be laughing with a tear in your eyes, and I don't mean tears from laughing. They say men get more sentimental as they get older! Maybe it's creeping up on me. But I remember when I first heard the Beatles "Rubber Soul" and how I reacted to that so it's always been there disguised by bravado, sunglasses, peeling onions or a fly in my eye.

Just to remind you that RPM Records (www.rpmrecords.co.uk) Cherry Red Records ltd group of labels have licensed the 3 EMI Pilot albums for reissue. They were released on July 27th 2009. I have added sleeve notes and a few interesting bonus tracks.

We now have our own pressings of the Beagle Hat CD "Orange Groove" and it will be available here shortly. Another link to a Beagle Hat video on youtube. The song is "Casgabarl" from the CD "Magical hat" featuring DP. It contains some footage from Pilot in Japan, on the road with Donnie Munro and in Spain when Hisa Tanaka came to visit me in 2005.
