David Paton Songs

 August 2008

Recordings for the new collaboration album from Japanese band Beagle Hat and myself continue and the songs are shaping up really well. The success of our first CD 'Magical Hat' has made it possible to begin recording the second album. A snippet from the album 'Monday Drifter' is included in the mp3 section to the right of this page. It's a Hisa Tanaka and David Paton composition and I've taken a section from the middle of the song, after all, I don't want to give too much away at the moment. The clip features my beautiful Rickenbacker 360/12. The CD should be released in December.

Mp3 number 2 is from Kenny Herbert and Rab Howat. Written by Kenny 'All of my days' is another example of the fine art of writing a tune that stays with you.

Mp3 number 3 and 4 'Same old sunrise'.It's a new song from me. Just a bit from the beginning and a bit from the end. I'll be giving it to Kenny and Rab to be included on a very limited sampler CD 'A Wednesday story' ( only 100 ). This will be a very rare CD as it will only be sold at a gig Kenny and Rab will perform at The White Star in Liverpool. We should have a completed CD available before the end of the year.

Mp3 number 5 is 'Lovely lady smile' recorded live in Tokyo last year. Also recorded in Tokyo last year is ' Magic' and it can be viewed on youtube, just follow the link. http://uk.youtube.com/user/gonahie

I have also included an early Abbey Road recording of 'Magic'. You can hear Billy playing some synth ideas and that's me messing about with guitar parts ( only the solo remained on the version we finally used ), very close to the Graighall demo ( sadly lost ).

The new album from Nobby Clark ( On the inside ) has now been finalised and we are both delighted with the end results. It should be for sale on www.nobbyclark.com by the end of this month and is entitled 'On the inside'.

I have had a few enquiries about MP3 downloads from the site. I'm looking into this as I do think it is a good idea and will help reduce the overall cost. I'll have more news soon.

A song I recorded for the 'Fellow man' album entitled 'Medicine' was written for a nasty character I had dealings with and I can't mention his name, aha so who is it? The song never made it onto the CD as it was a bit negative. Funny how you can be inspired to write something out of anger. I had to say how I felt at the time and in a way it was a release of feelings that made me feel better. There's a poem too but that'll have to stay locked up for now. So, 'Medicine', just for fun, I had a difficult time for a year or so, but it's over now and in the past.

On a happier note I am delighted to announce the birth of baby Ava. She was born on the 2nd of August to my daughter Katy and husband Blair
